7:45 a.m. and, once again, I’m wide awake. This seems to be becoming my body’s set time now. At least this morning I didn’t wake to the memory of squished bugs in my dreams! Instead, I woke up laughing! What is it with my dreams lately?! I had a VERY vivid dream of attending some sort of event – long, banquet-like tables and chairs – surrounded by friends and family – I particularly recall my dad and my sister-in-law, Terri. And there, in the center of the room are me and Mr. T … lip syncing and dancing to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off! Hilarious on it’s own, but if you knew Mr. T, whose picture is next to “introvert” in the dictionary, the absurdity is all the greater! I could not wipe the smile off my face as I crawled out of bed, nor could I get that ear worm of a song out of my head! Haha! Oh, well…
“Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off”
Breakfast: Breakfast stayed the same as always, Chocolate Protein Shake and Skim Milk
Some people are surprised that I use regular milk and not almond, with all the health craze towards almond milk and other non-dairy milks. Almond milk is lower in calories, however, my doctor & nutritionist recommend regular skim, unless you have a true dairy allergy, which I do not. The skim milk has much greater protein and calcium and that is what my nutritionist is most interested in making sure I have. I do keep shelf stable almond milk in my cabinet and will occasionally use it in recipes to lower the calorie count of baked goods, but for my protein shakes that I consume daily, it’s more important that I have my nutritional needs met.
After breakfast it was straight to the grocery store! I always look forward to grocery day! Most people think I’m crazy, but I really enjoy grocery shopping. The same fervor that I put into my thrift shopping I put into finding the best deals at the grocery store. I usually hit 3 – 4 stores in my weekly day out – 2 outlet stores, Aldi’s and Wal-mart. Today I was able to cut out one of the outlet stores because I did soooo well at the first one.
Lunch: Lunch came with me in my purse – a Premier Protein Bar. Since they have 30 g. of protein and 290 calories, this is more than sufficient to satisfy me for lunch on the go!
Home from the store and Tucker “helps” with the groceries! I’ve learned to strategically place my bags as I come through the door as he has been known to “help himself” to packages of deli meat!
Groceries away and it’s straight to school work! I grabbed a Greek Yogurt, Dannon Light ‘n Fit is my favorite brand, as a quick afternoon snack. Finish one book, start another, unload the dishwasher and next thing I know Mr. T is walking through the door and it’s time to get dinner started! Where did the day go?!
Dinner: Dinner is pasta in meat sauce, pull-apart garlic bread and salad. (See, I CAN cook, I just don’t like to!) I had 1/2 C. Pasta & Sauce (combined), 1/4 C. (ish) salad. I wasn’t able to finish either. Left a few bits of salad and between an 1/8 – 1/4 C. of the Pasta.
Workout: Frequently on grocery day I don’t do any further workout. I’ve taken my steps and my grocery shopping alone adds about 3500 steps to my day. Additionally you have the reaching and lifting, then when I get home our carport is at the back of our yard so all the groceries have to be carried across the yard into the house. Then the reaching and lifting of putting everything away. (100 yr. old house with high cabinets + 50 yr. old woman only 4’9″ = lots of reaching, bending and lifting) However, after only doing my short “Tucker” walk yesterday I decided I needed the boost today and pulled out the original Richard Simmons Sweatin’ to the Oldies. It’s the shortest in the series, only 35 minutes, and by far the easiest to do. (I own the complete set, #2 and #4 are my favorites!)
I’m happy to report I’ve done MUCH better on my water the last two days. No special trick, just making a conscious effort to “get it in there.” It’s just meant a LOT more bathroom trips! Oh well… that just means extra trips up the steps – burn those calories, baby!
Now up to bed to relax, watch a little t.v. with Mr. T, play a few games on my Kindle, read one of my going novels for a minute or two and let the day slip away. And of course have my turkey pepperoni and pepper jack cheese! It was, after all, grocery day and my supply has been replenished! Thank goodness!
